Into the Keep
Stealth and secrets

The group learned of a hidden entrance to Mondrake’s Keep and decided that a quiet entrance was advisable. They set out towards the keep and along the way befriended a little porcupine that seemed to get attached to lady Ashley.

John Shadowblade was able to located the hidden entrance and disable the series of traps protecting it.

The group found themselves in a series of tunnels located beneath the Keep. After a considerable time searching for a way into the Keep the group located a trap door which opened up underneath a workshed in the keep. They found a few items of interest in the shed and were able to scout the area some before heading into the keep itself.

The patrols were heavy and unusual. Undead zombies and other dark creatures. Clearly the sorcerer had been at work here for some time!

After some general skulkery…the group found themselves in a study belonging to the sorcerer himself!

To be continued…

The Twig Spirits
The group befiends a village of Twig Spirits

Surrounded – Ellrien (the Beastmaster), John Shadowblade (the Rogue), Princess Sarah (the Mage) and Lady Ashley (the Priest) are hunting for a set of powerful scrolls that were stolen from the mages guild in Loudwater. While investigating the forests near the abandoned keep, the party was spotted by a patrol of Twig Blight scouts. Surrounded, the group decided to try diplomacy and perhaps avoid a fight. The conversation was going as well as could be expected when the Blights were attacked by a massive bear. The group decided to help the blights and were successful in killing the bear. The little Twigs not only gained a healthy respect for the power of the group but they were grateful that only one of their comrades fell during the attack. Apparently, this community had been dealing with the very same bear attacks for months but the Dire Bear was simply too great a foe for less than a full patrol of Twig warriors.

In the Village – The Twig patrol escorted the party to their village to meet with their Chief; Uko Oni. The conversation went well and the Chief welcomed the group to their village with a feast…bear was on the menu! The group participated in dance and music with the Twig Spirits. They changed their name and their very nature when they escaped the clutches of the evil sorcerer who originaly summoned them.

The Twig Spirits - The group learned that many years ago Uko Oni found a small unicorn amulet which was the symbol of the Goddess Mielikki. Intrigued, he decided to keep it. Although he had no idea of its meaning he figured it must be a thing of value. The amulet was in fact imbued with a blessing by the goddess herself and it’s power began to affect the little blightborn twig. Over time the nature of Uko and those closest to him changed. He gained an appreciation for beauty and noticed that the world around him was foul. He made a decision to leave the corrupted keep and he and a band of friends set out into the forest.

The Sorcerer – The group never got a complete answer concerning this “sorcerer”. The learned enough to put together that the mage was furious at the Twig Blights when he learned of their escape. He sent many minions to find and kill them but none were successful as the Twigs are naturally masterful at blending into a forest. The sorcerer decided to take his wrath out on the forest itself and had his troops burn and cut down huge portions of the forest near his keep.

The Abandoned Keep - The twigs advise the group of a secret entrance into the keep and give them a crude map of it’s location. They also prepare a blessing for the group which will allow them to withstand the taint of the magic surrounding the keep.

The party is well rested amd prepared for their adventure in the keep. Their journey will begin at daybreak…

The Story So Far...

The story so far…

Friends since childhood, John Shadowblade and his closest companion Jeremy Warren set off to leave their small town and see the world. For years they had honed their skills and felt their lives wasting away in their small village. They traveled north toward Luskan in hopes that they might find work with one of the many caravans which always seemed to need extra guards. It was just their luck that they did indeed get work with a mercenary outfit escorting a merchant headed towards the northern cities as far up as Icewind Dale. Although it seemed an easy enough job, these two young would be heroes found out the hard way that life can be unpredictable and merciless. Two weeks into the journey the caravan was attacked by a massive force of kobolds. Only a small handful lived to tell the tale. Mortally wounded, lying in the middle of the road, Jeremy and John were left for dead.

Fate had other plans.

That very day the two were discovered by a heavily armed patrol who were hunting the very same Kobolds resonsible for the attack on the caravan. They were taken to Krondak Greyhelm, a cleric of considerable talent, for healing. For several months the two young men recovered from their wounds under the care of Krondak and his order. When John and Jeremy were fully recovered they set off towards luskan in the company of Krondak and a ranger named Ellrien.

Upon their arrival to Luskan the group learned that the problem with the trade route attacks had grown worse and that the Kobolds were becoming a serious threat to the local economy. The party accepted an offer to investigate and area know as Slaughtergard Keep. It was there that the group learned what they were truly capable of as they dealt with Kobolds, Goblins and even worse! It was in this hellish place that the group met Princess Sarah Stormhammer. She had been captive there for weeks, a victim of the trade route raids, and no doubt a valuble ransom for these scum. For days the group investigated the sick and twisted lair of these Kobolds and were able to escape to report their findings. Never one to back away from a challenge, the Princess decided to travel with the group and see the world for herself.

It has now been two years since the group began their travels. They have faced many challenges and grown more powerful but the key to their success has always been their trust in each other.

They now find themselves near Loudwater investigating the dissapearance of some very powerful and ancient scrolls from the Mage Guild…
